Aya: Life in Yop City

Marguerite Abouet and Clément Oubrerie bring readers into the bustle of Yopougon, where Aya and her friends negotiate friendship, romance and competing ambitions. The visual storytelling gives everyday life the scale and energy of a whole world.

It is an inviting route into character-driven graphic fiction, with humor and social observation that travel well beyond its immediate setting.
